You’ll see hundreds of the NZ’s toughest street cars cruising Taupo’s Bruce Mclaren Motorsport Park over 3 huge days. Plenty of hours of cruising time will be available on the track from Friday morning through to Sunday afternoon. Gates open Thursday after 5pm for Entrants Accreditation & Set up and on track from Friday morning (refer to event program for updates & exact times).
There will be plenty of time to go out and toast your mates and every other 4-cylinder, 6-cylinder, rotary, V8, supercharged, big blocked, gassed up, turbo charged street car that anyone comes along with. We let about 60 to 80 cars out onto the track at a time for 20 minutes of cruising. Once your done, you can line up again and do it all again. Of course if you have a pit lane garage there won’t be any need for you to line up, you’ll be able to just keep on cruising your wheels off as long as the 3 hour cruise sessions go for.
No Stopping, No Burnouts, No Donuts, No Drifting, & No Cutting In or Out of Traffic, remember this is not a race. If your car starts to over heat or fail pull to the side of the track, but DO NOT get out of your vehicle. A recovery vehicle will be around to assist you. The cruise session is to be enjoyed by all the participants. So cruise your car with your mates alongside the toughest streetcars, just like the good old days. Do short Powerskids, about 30 meters or so. But remember the person behind you won’t be able to see if you leave too much smoke behind you. Drag race anyone you like for as long as you safely can between the chicanes.
The Powerskid comp is all about showing off your vehicles horsepower and your ability to use the power to toast the bags off the car for the longest distance while only using the brake pedal to keep the car under some sort of control. The judges will choose the most awesome display of raw horsepower, driver talent, engine revs, quantity and length of smoke as the Powerskid winner.
Generally a favourite of the high tech imports, the drifting comp at Powercruise lends a different flavour where good old Aussie and American Muscle cars and Hot Rods will be able to flex their muscle alongside the smaller imports and show us their style. While it may look easy, it’s got a lot to do with the equipment you’re driving and knowing what your car is capable of doing that will bring out a few closet drifters.
The Drifting Competition is open to vehicles from registered streetcars to purpose built drift cars. Cars will be let out onto the track at 20 second intervals for safety reasons. Please note that Drifting is NOT permitted on the main straight. The top 16 will be chosen from the practice session and will go into the final round with the winner decided after the 16 car battle is completed. Judges are experienced Drifters & Drift Officials from local clubs so the judging is informed & fair.
We also have drift demo’s happening over the weekend. They are usually the top drifters of the country so if your one of these guys, you are officially invited to cut loose on the track and show us all why your considered one of the elite drifters in the country. We usually pick the 10 best drifters from the info we receive and these guys are invited with free entry, 3 crew weekend passes and an allocated drift central area for them so have their setup for all to see. If you think you qualify, please send us an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org with all your details and we’ll take it from there.
The Off-Street Racing competition is a run what ya brung, no rules, (well not many anyway) heads up race over approximately 200 metres. No timers, No lights, No warming your tyres… Just a man with a flag to start you. When the flag drops, you’ll need to get the loud pedal to the floor as quickly as possible, and from there it is simple, the first guy over the finish line…wins!!
You will race against whoever comes up next to you randomly. No queue jumping. Your tyres must have a tread pattern on them. You cannot use slicks and cut a tread pattern into them. At the start of each run your tyres must have the tread pattern. Tyres cannot be changed during the racing.
It will be a standing start. If any car goes before the flag is dropped, they will be disqualified immediately. After the race, the winner will receive a winner’s card & must proceed immediately without diversion back to the line up area for the start of the second round. Cars are not permitted to be refuelled and cannot carry fuel in the car in a container. Only one person is allowed to work on the car and that is the driver. No pit crew are allowed to touch the car. They can however bring you things like drinks and moral support. The car must go all rounds under its own power and ability through to the final.
If watching the big numbers being punched out on the little screen is for you, then you don’t wanna miss this event. From high PSI Turbos, nitrous fed monsters and just plain crazy engines, there’s sure to be something that lights your fire in this competition. The rules are simple…THERE ARE NO RULES….Unlimited boost, multiple nitrous systems and no fuel restrictions. Attendance subject to each unique events schedule
show & shine
The Show and Shine is always an integral part of Powercruise with Show, Street and Competition classes. Seeing how Powercruise is more of a driver’s event and therefore attracting more Pro Street style of cars out of their garages it was only fitting to have trophies for all categories and classes with something for everyone’s tastes.
To participate in the Show and Shine, you must be an entrant in Powercruise. At some events we offer a promotional show and shine only entry fee, if there is no show and shine only entry option at your chosen event you will have to enter Powercruise as a full driving entrant which allows you to go in all of the events we offer. It’s up to you if you go in all of the events or just one of them like the show and shine.
To be judged in the Show & Shine, simply display your car with or without your setup in the dedicated Show and Shine area. Our resident Judges will do the rounds and make sure your car gets judged. The show judge also decides what class your car fits into best and will judge it accordingly. Once judging is complete, your entrant sticker will be signed, indicating that your vehicle has been judged. Then you are free to do what you like with your car but we would prefer you leave it in the show area for all to see.
The burnout competition is definitely a highlight on the program and is the place to see all the highest horsepower cars putting on the biggest smoke show for the die-hard burnout crowd. At Supercheap Auto Powercruise Pukekohe, punters will be treated to some Big Hitter Invite Only Burnout Demonstrations throughout the weekend.
Check the event program for more information of where and when you can catch the Demos as each events schedule can vary.
PLUS . . .
HOUR OF POWER
The hour of power is like no other. The toughest hand picked big hitters from the event cruise for a solid half hour. Yes, the Hour of Power is only 30 minutes long; did you really think these guys could cruise for a whole hour? The best of the best will find a HP sticker on their windscreen if they have been selected, so keep an eye out for that.
If you are interested in entering your car into the Sound Off at Supercheap Auto Powercruise register your interest with Jody at Taupo Insane Car Audio & Security or you can email email@example.com and we will pass your details on.
Wanna see some stunners on stage throughout the day. Depending on the temperature of course, you can check out the main stage Saturday and Sunday for all the action.
Any girls wishing to enter the Miss Powercruise competition can register at the main stage any time before 1pm on the Saturday. All girls must be 18+ and wearing something respectable – it is a family show after all. Then you just get up on stage, strut your stuff and tell us a little about yourself. The winner and runner up will be asked to return on the Sunday for the trophy presentations.
